Call Out Details:
Two young walkers with inadequate gear got lost at the top of Eskdale after tackling Scafell Pike. In worsening weather they reported themselves in trouble by a 999 call. Search Dog Jess and handler set off to try and locate them, backed up by other Team members.
Call Out Conclusion:
Jess found the pair from a long way away, in driving snow and a bitterly cold wind, not far from Esk Hause. They were very lucky they had managed to get a 999 call out to raise the alarm. It could have been a very different outcome otherwise, given the sudden deterioration in the weather and how seriously cold they already were. They were able to walk down after being warmed up and fed in a bivvi tent, and using all of the dog handler's spare clothing. (See picture)
