Call Out Details:

A 79 year old man with diabetes had gone out for a walk in the Maryport area on Friday. He failed to return, and the Police, anxious for his safety, requested assistance from Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team.Search dogs from this Association were also requested to assist the search overnight. Fields and shoreline areas were searched, based on the information as to his last known location, but no trace of him was found. Night time temperatures were very low. However, the following day, a member of the public reported seeing him on the coast road fairly close to home, and a further search was mounted, again without result.

Call Out Conclusion:

On the Sunday, yet another search was arranged with five dogs and Cockermouth team, and after 5 hours, the missing man was found by Search Dog Bracken, and his handler Elly Whiteford. The handlers and MRT assisted the Air Ambulance crew with treatment for severe hypothermia, and he was flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. Unfortunately, he passed away shortly after arriving in hospital. Our deepest sympathies to his family and friends on their loss.
