Once a year, we try to get together for an indoor training session to cover a variety of experiences which we can’t necessarily do at Training weekends. This year’s programme was organised by our Training Officer, Andy Peacock, and comprised a real mixed bag which kept everyone on their toes.
We gathered at the Derwentwater Hostel in Borrowdale for a varied programme, which included sessions on the Training Stages, a report from the Norwegian Winter Course attended by three handlers from the Association, Bodying, and Trauma Risk Management. There was a display by the Drowned Victim Search Dogs, who showed how their dogs can detect under water, and their strategies for mounting such a search. The seminar was also an opportunity to update photos of dog teams and personnel.
The Derwentwater staff, as always, gave us a great welcome and looked after us wonderfully. We will be sorry to see the departure of Kathy Morris and Dave Piercy, the wardens, who have been accommodating us at various times for the last 20 years. We wish them a happy retirement.
